  121. Cost of ownership
  122. Cost of ownership comparisons for Data General are not included because
  123. numbers are based on list prices and Data General, more than any other
  124. vendor, bids a price that is based on the competition.  Data General's
  125. list prices are considerably higher than HP's, however, both Data
  126. General direct and Data General's VARs have greater control over the
  127. actual bid price.  Data General's bid price is almost always lower than
  128. all of their competitors.  This pricing policy extends to support and
  129. maintenance.  In some instances, a 5 year warranty period at no charge
  130. to customers is included.  Prospects that are making a decision on price
  131. alone, should consider investment alternatives.  Data General is not
  132. financially strong and the AViiON system, based on Motorola's 88K, may
  133. not be expandable.  A strategic decision should include all the costs
  134. associated with purchasing a Data General system.  This strategic
  135. approach may prove to be prohibitive because of costs.
